The Age Concern Volunteer visitor service becomes very important to an older person’s life.
There are many reasons why an older person is lonely and isolated.
Their wife or husband my have passed away, family lives in another town, they have issues with mobility or illness, or they might not be as outgoing as most would think.
Villages are now vast and isolation and loneliness to those not so social, has become a problem.
Our volunteers are just normal people that are genuinely interested in getting to know them and most times they are one on one in the person’s home.
One of our goals is to ensure where we can help our older friends be as independent as possible and stay in their home for as long as they can. Once this comes to an end and the next step has begun, our volunteers and Age Concern Waikato are there to help them every step of the way.
We are always looking for new volunteers to help with the many referrals we get for our older friends.
